I realize I just commented on this piece but it moves me deeply.......... simply ineffable!!

Laurie Stewart replied:

Thank you, Peter. Making art is such a solitary act, it's always gratifying to learn one's work has touched another person.

A very intriguing and unique painting, Laurie! I really like it!

Laurie Stewart replied:

Thank you Randy. Fort Worden, now a state park, was built around 1900 as an artillery installation to prevent foreign ships from entering Puget Sound. Never fired a shot in any war, but the extensive gun batteries and bunkers remain. The finest concrete work I've ever seen, still sound a hundred years on.

Artist's Description

A set of steps at Fort Worden in Port Townsend, Washington. I was struck by the extreme disparity between the softness of the temporary gentle rain and the hardness and endurance of the concrete.
